How to Neutralise the Self Perpetuating Wheels of Thought.

The religious experience of eternity is often connected with some awesome mind blowing sense of being now, - but it's not the simple sense of now which every animal has, and we could so easily relearn.

Animals have three modes of being: active, passive, and broadband. Non-selective or broadband sensing evolved for the purpose of being receptive to and aware of sudden movements and changes in the immediate environment. Broadband sensing can only be done now, because that's the only time we can actually sense what's happening.

Non-selective is not a good word to describe it because this could also mean in a stupor and completely unaware, it fails to describe the actual activity of being ready and waiting, on the watch or ready to be watchful.

Humans hardly ever use this way of sensing directly or intentionally. The original practical use of broadband sensing is obsolete and redundant. Our ancestors fears and daily insecurity have been overcome. There is no need to be on the watch, or ready to be watchful all the time, as animals need to be, to survive.

But there are a number of side effects which are relevant for human life, today more than ever. One of these side effects is important to explain: the effect broadband sensing has of temporarily slowing down and even stopping the self perpetuating abstract memory systems. We need to stop the eternal repetitive chatter in our minds. We need to get a bit of simple and direct peace of mind.

Animals can't think when they are awake to and aware of anything sudden or unexpected which might happen. If you go broadband, ready and watchful for any sudden, or even any slower change or movement in the environment, if you stop focussing on anything with your senses and your mind, it stills the mind. In effect it disconnects the regenerating basis for thinking. It devolves the system. Without focussing on anything you can't start thinking about it, and consequently you can't want it or want to repeat it.

This could also be applied to gazing gormlessly at nothing, and becoming a stupid, lost, blob of pointlessness. So, it's important to not just stop focussing. Our senses and mind need something to focus on, in order to make any sense of life.

So, i feel it's good advice when focussing, to focus on wholesome inspiring ideas and things. And this is appropriate because focussing and concentration are easy and natural with anything beautiful, creative or awesome. Focussing is useful and practical with anything you want. And focussing is indispensible for achieving any higher goal in life.

But in order to be now with a feeling of integration with my environment, to feel the connection between me and my world - sense in the broadband way. NOT just gazing gormlessly, merely trying NOT to do anything which could stimulate all the continual memory associations; - BUT ACTIVELY giving your repetitious mental activity its natural stimulus to devolve and degenerate, by going broadband. Cause the thoughts to lose their impetus and their momentum by sensing in the broadband way.

I will repeat that because it's central. When i am sensing in a broadband way, purely receptive to what is happening around me, then there is no stimulus for any associations, nothing to cause or generate the continual memories. The repeating wheels of thought become slower and smoother, they lose their reassertion and thus their self confirmation. (This may be the optimal cure for, and safeguard against, closed mindedness). The thoughts lose their impetus, there is no momentum or energy causing the repetitions.

And broadband sensing is something which wanting to do it trying to do it, and being attached to it, doesn't prevent it happening, it encourages it. It's reliable. There seems to be another set of rules governing this way of sensing. It doesn't lead to the same mental problems or potential that focussed sensing has.

And having said that, it's not really so important to understand how focussing and thinking work, what's essential first is to realise broadband sensing is a very direct connection (it's more than a relationship) with the immediate environment, now, without any abstract thought, because as soon as you start thinking, you stop being able to sense. In order to be now, aware and awake, and feel a sense of connection with what is happening now, nothing surpasses broadband sensing.

If we want eternity, we probably have to focus on eternal things. But if want to be now, still our thoughts, with a basic feeling of connection with our world, we need to learn from animals, and how they use their broadband sensing.

The senses are seen as the door between us and the world outside of us. In a broadband reality our senses connect us with the world. The irrational feeling is : we are the door.

Broadband sensing stills the mind, and devolves, neutralises (usurps/supersedes), the normal rules governing self perpetuating thoughts, and consequently wanting and abstract desire lose their self-confirming repetitious-regenerating power.
